Finches hosted HCPL champions High Wycombe on Saturday as the halfway stage of the programme approaches.

The visitors asked Finches to bat first in fairly cloudy and windy conditions.

Finch openers Greg Smith and Ben Moffat reached 20 steadily in 13 overs against Bucks county bowlers Cam Parsons, Tom Hampton and Andy Woodland, but then soon were 26 – 5 and in shreds in 16 overs. At 20 both Greg and Matt Gilkes were dismissed by Woodland. Then at 26 three wickets fell. At 39 Mike O’Donohue was another Parsons victim so 6 down and just 20 overs bowled.

No respite as it was 8 down at 55 as spinner Conor Haddow soon took his first wicket and then a run out for Doug McMurray. Brave strokes from James Woodford and Liam Bulteel 22 not out saw the total to 88. Only 38 overs were bowled in the total.

The visitors were two down in 3 overs. Lewis Sharp saw Elliot Callis caught behind then former Finch skipper Dan Marles was yorked first ball. But no more problems for High Wycombe as Teddy Casterton 31 not out and Chris Mc Bride 40 not out steered the visitors home at 89 – 2.

A resounding win for the powerful visitors as Finches must now move towards their early season form for the next match.

Action for all four TVCL sides. In Division 2B the Seconds visited Binfield Firsts. Finches closed on 221 – 7 with Matt Eldridge 82 and Steve Brogan 54. Finches were well on top with the hosts 99 – 4 when rain ended proceedings for the draw.

The Thirds in Division 4A hosted Purley on Thames Firsts. Finches closed their innings at 236 – 8. Wes Roberts with 87 not out led the batters with Gareth Fearon 52 and Ian Rose 36. Visitors Purley were 55 – 2 when rain curtailed the match.

The Fourths in Division 5B batted first at nearby Eversley Seconds. They closed on 206 – 9 with Chris May 51 not out and Steve Reubenheimer 46. Eversley were 70 – 1 when along came the rain to end the match.

The Fifths in Division 9A hosted Cookham Dean Fourths on Sunday. They totalled a fine 308 – 32 in 40 overs. Christian Taylor 153 and Madav Srivastan 98 not out led the batting. The visitors had no answers being dismissed for 124. Ninan Khanti with 4 – 30 led the bowlers. So a welcome emphatic first win for the fifths.
