Kwame Appiah7 May - 19:33

High Wycombe hosted two T20 matches – in preparation for the HCPL T20 competition starting next Saturday – playing Finchampstead.

Before the matches a minute’s silence was observed for both John Reed – passing away a week ago – and Bucks Secretary Kevin Beaumont – well known to High Wycombe and Bucks Cricket who died the previous day. Both were outstanding cricket stalwarts.

For Match One on losing the toss Finches were asked to bat. Losing Tommie first ball bowled by Conor Haddow they then slipped to 18 – 3 in 4 overs. Skipper Chris Britz was caught at long on then Haddow bowled Harry Stephens. James Isbell and Jed Crerar took the score to 51 before James was caught. When Jed was caught for 35 the score was 110 – 5 in 15 overs. Then a fine 41 from Eddie Campion helped see the score to 149 – 8 in the 20 overs.
Hosts High Wycombe also lost early wickets being 32 – 3 in 5 overs. There were wickets for Liam Bulteel, Lewis Sharp and Harry Stephens. They then advanced to 58 – 5 in 11 overs and it was from then on the score moved on well with Dan Lincoln playing good strokes. The score was passed at 152 – 7 with 3 balls remaining. Dan Lincoln finished on 72 not out.

Match Two saw High Wycombe batting first. Again early losses saw them 9 – 2 in only the second over with seamer Paul Stephens taking both wickets. By the 12th over the score was 69 – 4 with his brother Harry Stephens taking the next two wickets with his off spin. At 116 two more fell one to spinner Eddie Campion and then a run out. At the 20 overs conclusion the HW score was 160 – 8 with Dan Lincoln 36 not out.
Starting very well Finches had advanced to 85 – 1 at the 10 overs half way point losing only James Isbell. There followed fine knocks led by 30 from Stuart Parsons to see Finches comfortably home at 165 – 3 and 3 overs remaining. Tommie Predgen 29 not out and Jed Crerar 25 not out completed the innings.

So two good warm up matches in preparing for next Saturday. Then the HCPL T20 regionalised group of 4 clubs play at newly promoted to the HCPL Falkland. At 10 am Falkland play Wokingham and at 1 pm Henley play Finchampstead. At 4 pm the two winning sides play each other for the group winner.
