On winning the toss the visitors elected to bat first. They proceeded comfortably to 37 in 6 overs when seamer Liam Bulteel had county opener Rhys Lewis caught at slip so 37 – 1. The wicket loss for Wargrave did mean a move to tightening up the attack by Finches. This became even more apparent when Paul Stephens joined the attack. His nagging medium pace accuracy proved very useful.
By the 22nd over the score was 84 – 4. Paul had opener Rob Farina caught then spinner Samm Daniel secured two lbw wickets. Then the introduction of skipper Chris Britz in the 33rd over saw him then proceed to five successive wickets. The score was 121 – 7 in the next 4 overs with Chris having first a wicket by a catch then bowling the next two. At 133 Chris had secured 2 more wickets then Paul completed the innings by dismissing Luke Beaven for Ben Salter’s third catch.
So 137 all out in 44 overs with Chris Britz taking 5 – 15 and Paul Stephens 2 – 24 in 14 overs, with Samm Daniel also two wickets.
Opening with Tommie Predgen and Greg Smith Finches lost Greg caught with just 18 on the board. Then in the twelfth over Tommie fell lbw to spinner Luke Beaven so the score at 47 – 2. The runs came swiftly but Eddie Campion fell at 94 in the 19th over. Finches then cruised home in 25 overs at 138 – 3 with Chris Britz 48 not out and Ben Salter 36 not out.
So a comfortable seven wicket win and retaining unbeaten second slot in the league the 121 Finches points being only 4 short of leaders High Wycombe.
