Match One saw Wokingham defeat newly promoted to the HCPL Falkland scoring 226 runs to 150 runs and a 76 runs win.
Match two and Finches batted first against Henley. They soon lost Tommie Predgen caught in the covers with 8 on the board. Then after good strokes James Isbell was bowled for 24 with the score at 32. In 6 overs skipper Chris Britz was stumped leaving Finches on 37 – 3. By the 10 overs halfway mark the score had risen to 60 – 3.
By over 14 Harry Stephens was also stumped for 34 then in 16 overs Ben Salter was another stumping for his 29 so a 102 – 5 score. Two more fell by over 18 then the innings closed on a modest looking 136 – 8 in 20 overs.
Henley also lost an early wicket as James Isbell held a good catch off a skier to see James Darymple removed in the third over with 17 on the board. But by the tenth over Henley were cruising to victory at 93 – 1. They did lose a second wicket at 100 but then cruised to victory at 139 – 2 and 3 overs remaining. Charlie Dunnett ended 60 not out.
So the group final saw Henley defeat Wokingham to proceed to the later finals day. They scored 226 to Wokingham’s 150.
We now proceed to the five matches for Finches sides starting the league season this Saturday.
The senior HCPL Division One match is Great Brickhill hosting Finches. So a long journey for the team to near Milton Keynes to start for Finches.
The Seconds promoted back to TVCL Division 2B host Sonning Firsts.
For the Thirds continuing in Division 4A it is an away match to Fleet Firsts.
Continuing in Division 7A the Fourths host new arrivals Farley Hill Seconds.
The Fifths – promoted to Division 9A - host Sandhurst Seconds. Again a club arriving in the TVCL after the reorganisation extending the league teams.
For those statistically interested this is the first time Finches have met three first eleven sides and two second eleven sides on a league Saturday. So no opponent elevens lower than seconds !!
