Finchampstead hosted second placed Banbury in the penultimate HCPL division one match of the season.

Good starting conditions with a rain possibility later saw Finches ask Banbury to bat first. Opening with Lloyd Sabin and Ollie Clarke Banbury saw 38 on the board in seven overs. Then Sabin was bowled by Connor Corlet offering no stroke. Twenty runs later Sav Rana was caught at square leg again off Connor Corlet so 58 – 2.

A good partnership then developed between Ollie Clarke and Said Yousaf. They saw the hundred up in twenty overs . Then at 144 Clarke was caught and bowled spinner Jason Soames. But Yousaf continued his fine innings until at 203 and the 41st over he was neatly stumped by Dan Lincoln off his brother Josh for 87. Four overs later it was a repeat performance this time Charlie Hill being out so 226 – 5.

Useful strokes from Joe White 32 and Richard West 27 not out saw Banbury to 272 – 7 at the 50 overs closure. Finches had restricted the runs well in the good batting conditions.
Finches opened with Greg Smith and Ollie Soames. Greg soon departed but with Dan Lincoln joining Ollie the runs flowed. But at 12 overs rain arrived and caused a stoppage. At that point Finches were 77 – 1. On resumption the D/L meant now 40 overs were allowed and aq score of 240 needed. So with 28 overs remaining play continued.

Immediately Ollie Soames was out cutting at a short ball for 37. Then dan Lincoln and Billy Rogers pressed on well until the nineteenth over when the stroke filled innings of Dan Lincoln ended at 115 with his score 57. With Toby Albert then soon dismissed Josh Lincoln continued the strokes set up by his brother. With Billy Rogers the pair saw the score to 198 before Josh was caught for 47. But then 42 were needed and ten overs remaining.

But at 201 Jason Soames was bowled by spinner Ollie Clarke. At 211 Billy Rogers was rather unluckily run out after playing well forward then failing to get back after the run attempt. He scored a useful 46. With seven down and only 29 needed worse followed one run later as Connor Corlet fell LBW. The misery was compounded as the last two wickets fell so at 219 Finches were all out.

They lost by 20 runs having collapsed by losing the last six wickets for 21 runs.

All four sides saw TVCL action. The Seconds in a precarious position in division 2B visited Aldershot Firsts. The hosts hit 226 – 7 in their 50 overs. Finches simply had to seek the runs and set up a fine finish. With four needed from the last ball to win they scored two and narrowly lost at 224 – 8. The score chase was led by a magnificent 76 not out from Mike O’Donohue.

At Farnham Royal Firsts in division 3A the Thirds saw the hosts bat first. They totalled 195. Finches closed 165 all out to lose by 30 runs. The innings was led by 74 from Tom Wroot.

The Fourths hosted Bradfield Firsts on the leas ground. Bradfield were 203 – 8 at the allotted overs. After a rain interruption the revised D/L score set was 171. The score was too much for Finches closing on 146 – 6 to lose by 25 runs. Leading the batters was Joe Sheldon with 37.

The Fifths in division 8A hosted Eversley Thirds. Eversley totalled 195 – 8 with David Higginson taking 3 – 31. Finches fell short by 15 runs at 180 – 9 with Christian Taylor hitting 42.
