Match number three in the HCPL as Finches travelled the long journey to Great Brickhill – the promoted club just south of Milton Keynes.

On losing the toss, Finches were asked to bat first. The openers Greg Smith and Tommie Predgen then embarked on a fine partnership reaching 80 before Greg was dismissed for 39. The runs continued with Tommie playing particularly strong strokes, well supported by Ben Moffat and skipper Chris Britz – the partnership between Tommie and Chris putting on 67. With 254 on the board, Tommie was eventually dismissed for his outstanding 119. Good strokes by Jed Crerar and the tail saw the score to 320 – 7 at the 50 overs close.

The very high score was bound to be a real challenge for the hosts. This certainly was the case as they slumped to 31 – 3 with pacemen Lewis Sharp and Liam Bulteel taking the wickets. Brickhill never recovered and when the fifth wicket fell they were then 81 – 5. Despite a good 60 from Marcus Critchley Brickhill were eventually dismissed for 146.

The bowlers produced fine returns with Liam Bulteel 3 – 26 , Chris Britz 2 – 21 , Lewis Sharp 2 – 29 and Samm Daniel 2 – 40. An outstanding display of teamwork both batting and bowling leading to the exceptional 174 run win and table topping with all three matches.

All four TVCL sides saw action. In Division 3A the Seconds hosted Falkland Seconds – the visitors batting first. Falkland were well placed at 138 – 3 when three wickets fell for just three runs so at 141 – 6 the innings changed. All out for 188 with Dilan Patel securing a fine bowling return of 6 – 34. The score was easily achieved by 8 wickets at 192 – 2. Leading the batters was Manny Bawa with a fine 79 not out. Skipper Stuart Parsons 45 not out and Matt Eldridge 41 completed the team performance and third win.

Division 4A saw White Waltham Firsts as visitors to the Thirds. A modest batting performance by Finches saw them dismissed for just 127. Some useful spin saw Finches take five Waltham wickets but at 128 – 5 the visitors won by 5 wickets.

The Fourths were away to Reading Thirds in 7A. Batting first Finches were all out for 167 with Gareth Biggs hitting 64. Reading comfortably won the match by 7 wickets at 168 – 3.

The Fifths hosted Yateley Seconds in 10C. The visitors totaled 224 – 6 with Dave Marles taking 2 – 36. Finches were all out for 170 with Rob Bishop 60 so losing by54 runs.
