The last four HCPL matches and 50 overs each as the match rules. Visiting Finchampstead were the in form Aston Rowant.

Despite good covering for the square the wet outfield meant a half hour delay but with 10 minutes to go a rain storm prevented this. The match then started one and a half hours late and with 43 overs for each side.

On winning the toss Finches skipper Craig Hodges asked Aston Rowant to bat first. By the 22nd over the visitors were 94 – 3 a with all three wickets to the off spin of Billy Rogers. At the crease were Tom Condon and Haydn Rousseau who set about improving the innings
Tom Condon was caught at deep mid wicket for his fine 68 so then six down. There were then six overs to go and good strokes from the late order saw a challenging score for Aston Rowant of 228 – 8. Haydn Rousseau ended on 53 not out.

Finches soon lost Greg Smith caught in the slips at 11 but fine batting by Adan Dewes saw progress to 91 when two more wickets had fallen. Ed Oliver then joined Adam Dewes and the pair steadily built a good partnership. But runs were needed and with 4 overs remaining 40 were needed. Then at 194 a brilliant run out saw Ed Oliver out for 59.
With three overs to go three more wickets fell. The second of these was Adam Dewes run out by a direct throw for a magnificent 95. With one over remaining 7 runs were needed. Four balls gone and two required. Then on the fifth Craig Hodges was bowled. The last ball saw Connor Corlet drive the ball for a two to secure the win.

A fine match which simply could not have been closer and a welcome 20 points for Finches.

The Thirds in division 3A visited Binfield Firsts. Binfield posted a formidable 297 – 4 helped by a fine 189 from Tom Andrews. Finches were all out for 207 with Ian Rose 46 and Cameron Ellis 30.

On the leas ground the Fourths hosted Purley -on-Thames Seconds. Purley posted 280 – 4. The score was too much for the very young Finches side who were 90 all out.
