Coaching

Finchampstead Cricket Club’s Vision Statement is:

“To ensure that every boy and girl is introduced to the game and is given the opportunity to progress through a structured coaching and support programme.  Likewise, the Club wishes to ensure that every player will perform to the highest level that their desire and ability allows, and play the game fairly and within the spirit of the game.”

The Club is extremely proud of the work and development that has gone into the Coaching Programme element of the Club’s Development. Since it achieved ClubMark status in 2005, the club has gone from strength to strength, and in 2006, it was one of the first Club’s in the UK to be selected to deliver coaching to schools in the Community through the Chance to Shine and Berkshire Sports Partnership programmes.

As a result of the grants provided by these programmes, the club are now able to provide an extremely comprehensive Club Coaching Programme. This has been developed by the Club under the guidance of the Director of Coaching, Alan Jones, who was a professional cricketer with Glamorgan for 13 years and is now delivered by our coaching partners Performance Cricket www.performance-cricket.com/.  They make available coaching for Club & non Club members, young or old, beginners or experienced players alike, which include:

  • Squad Sessions for Youth & Senior sides
  • ‘Specialist’ Sessions for carefully selected individuals who show good promise in certain skill and technique areas.
  •  Performance Workshops
  • 1:1 Sessions to all players who wish to seriously improve their game
  • Coaching Camps

Over the past 5 years, the Club has invested a great deal into developing a coaching team to support the Performance Cricket programme and now boast over 20 ECB qualified coaches, two-thirds of them being at UKCC level 2 or above.

Coaching Partner

Finchampstead Cricket Club are delighted to be in partnership with Berkshire’s leading cricket coaching provider Performance Cricket. Set up in 2006 Performance Cricket delivers high quality cricket coaching to players (boys and girls) from beginner level right up to performance cricketers including adults. Performance Cricket is headed up by Berkshire’s only ECB Level 4 qualified coach, Chris Ellison. Chris is also a national coach for the ECB working as Team Director for England’s Physical Disability cricket team. Chris is superbly supported by a team of highly qualified and experienced coaches including three of Berkshire’s ECB Level 3 coaches, Mark Allum, Tom Lambert and Tim Dellor plus Finchampstead 1st XI captain, Matt Jones. A key area in the partnership includes coaching development and education work for a number of our younger, emerging coaches.

Following the success of Performance Cricket in the area a formal partnership was established in 2011 for Performance Cricket to become the official coaching provider for Finchampstead Cricket Club. This includes leading delivery of many junior winter and summer coaching programmes. Performance Cricket also provides high quality coaching during the school holidays, one to one coaching and mid week evening courses. In addition, our partnership with Performance Cricket forms part of the agreement with The Forest School, Winnersh. A refurbishment of the sports hall at The Forest School involved joint funding from Finchampstead Cricket Club and Performance Cricket. The benefits of which are that we are now able to provide all year round cricket development for our juniors and adults at a much more cost effective rate. For more information check out their website www.performance-cricket.com or email Performance Cricket Director, Chris Ellison on chris@performance-cricket.com for further details. Chris can also be contacted on 07887 598570.

We look forward to working together as the 2012 season approaches.
