u17 a la fresco at Chobham

07/06/2008

u17's comfortably win at Chobham's alternative fixture ground, Gordon's School, nice school, shame about the allocated pitch, astro, uncut grass, no changing facility but thanks to Chobham for their first aid kit for Phil West after his valient effort for a c & b.  With Matt Morris using the gloves and doing a reasonable job that possibly inspired Finch to magnificent catches that just got better and better.  In order of events, catches by Charlie, Alex, Matt, Rohan and James who also was close to his first 5 For that were simply breathtaking.  Alex plucked his ball one handed from a pulled smash at very short mid on which just stunned the crowd and umpires and then Rohan having made a good effort earlir to hold a flat pull at square leg, ran a mile to hold a catch over his shoulder with a magnifcent dive inches from the ground.  Both were champagne moments.  James took his after a 30 yard run high over leg side overcoming what might have been a mighty crash of merging players wanting to get in on the action.  Chobham closed with 90 for 6.  Marcus Bazley opened and just missed his 50 with very good 46 not out to help Finch to the win after 15.2 overs.   Thats the good stuff but Finch bowling was wayward with too many wides.  Nothing a few net sessions will not overcome and attendence at training is now essential.  Alton have conceed the Herald cup first round which was disappointing but as cup holders Finch march on and it will be very difficult for anyone to try to prize this trophy away from them.  Anyone got any pictures?
