Another Successful Season

30/07/2010

Finch won their last league game against Sandhurst but were pipped to top of the league by Binfield.
I want to take this opportunity to record the season’s highlights;  the core of the team is always u19’s but it took 33 players, both seniors and youth, to contribute this season including young veterans Steve West and Canus Augustus always great supporters of the team.  We lost one game all season and 3 games to rain which if only one had been played we would have won the league.  A major thank you to Stephen Madgwick who kindly provided his umpiring skills for most games and who kept the scorers, well me, on their toes.  As to batting, Simon Bell top scored with 235 runs and also got a ton, with some very good batting performances from our skippers Phil West and Alex Jones, and Anthony Parsons, Charlie Alexander, Dylan Austustus Matt Bell and Scotty Osler who also kept wicket and just got better and better with 4 catches and a stumping, all these details are in the players averages, you just have to click on midweek then select batting or bowling.
As to bowling, Dylan also racked up 10 wickets and was well supported in opening partnerships by Jonny Aston, Justin Clarke, Matt Bell and Liam Matthews.   There were many good young spin bowlers that helped out Jonny Gaffney, Tom Potter, Dan Marles, Chris Wroot and JJ Dewes. The best performance was Marcus Bazley with 4 wickets off 6 balls in his one and only over only to be taken off to give others a bowl.  OK not enough space to mention all players that made a contribution because the skippers made sure everyone played a part with bat or ball even u12 Nick West who helped out in a couple of games when we were unexpectedly short of a player.
As to results, we won the knock-out cup for the 2nd year running and were runners up in the league but essentially everyone had fun and played some great cricket and Finchampstead’s reputation has been promulgated.
