Team: 4th XI
Date: 17th May
Vs: Windsor
Result: Match lost
Bobby O won the toss and elected to bat, in cold, overcast conditions. Some accurate bowling from the visitors kept the two Finch openers tied down and Matt Lay was the first to go for 12 with the score on 28. This brought Tommy Hopkins to the crease for his first match of the year. He and David Davies took the score along to 61 until Tommy was caught in the covers for a breezy 22. At this point 19 overs had been bowled. David Davies was the next to go for a dogged 35 in an innings that saw spurts of scoring intermixed with periods of defence. Bobby O struggled against the tight Windsor bowling and was caught and bowled for 9. At this point the score was 105 off 32 overs. Ben Fisher played well for 26 and when he departed the score stood at 115 for 5 off 36 overs. At this point a reasonable score looked likely, with Mike Simmonite and Dan Barclay at the crease. Unfortunately the tight bowling took it’s toll with Finch loosing their last 5 wickets for 3 runs, trying to get to that reasonable score. The final score 118 off 42.1 overs.
Windsor started slowly against the Finch openers with Phil West improving from last week with figures of 6 overs for 8 runs. Dave Mason kept the interest alive with a couple of wickets in his first spell, and Mike Simmontie bowling 15 overs on the trot (not sure if he was walking on Sunday) finishing with 2 for 48. Dylan Augustus was brought into the attack and like last week took a couple of wickets in much improved figure of 2 for 18 off 6 overs, he also took a good catch off the bowling of Mason. With Windsor knowing they had overs in the bank even a delay for rain did not stop them from overhauling the Finch total in the 41st over. Dave Mason took another wicket in his second spell and finished with figures of 3 for 42 off 15 overs.
