The new look Finchampstead Premier team lead by Sam Taylor just missed out on a victory in the first league game of the season when they entertained Gerrards Cross at the Memorial Park.Gerrards Cross batted first and after being 8 for 2 a 190 stand saw 198 on board before 15 years old opener Sam Westaway was dismissed for 50. Despite 3 wickets for Anthony Parson the visitors closed their 60 overs at 267 for 5 with an outstanding 172 not out from Mark Wright.

Responding Finches were 49 in 8 overs before Scott Patterson and then immediately Matt Jones were dismissed. A good 75 from Russell Lane and steady mid- order batting kept the run chase along. But with 53 overs at close Finches were 14 runs short at 253 for 7 in fine attempt to secure the total. Nick Woodroffe 50 not out and Darron Augustus both batted well.
