02-08-2011 - Away - ECB U15 Regional Finals - Horsham CC vs Finch
After a disappointing mornin, the boys had to play Horsham CC
Horsham won the toss and put us in to bat. The openers Beswick and Dewes set about restoring pride and put on 23 runs before the loss of the first wicket. This brought Ollie armstrin Wood to the crease and both set about scoring runs . The mood of the fich supporters and players became more up beat and with clapping and cheering occuring everytime a ball crossed the boundary line, you knew that boys were back.
With Billy Beswick retiring on 50 and Ollie Armstrong Wood being Run Out on 46 it was now that Horsham got back in to the game. They changed their bowlers often, but contributions from Lincoln, Mills, Bale , Wroot and Stevenson saw Finch reach 140 for 6 off 20 overs.
A quick change around and Finch took to the field with a spring in their steps.
2 Overs in and Finch took 2 wickets and Hodges was on a Hat trick , but resistance from J Phelps saw that Horsham had the same spring in their Batting.
Some key bowling changes and tight bowling from Lincoln and Bale, saw Horsham suddenly struggling to score runs.
After 10 overs they where 87 for 3. Some excellent fielding in the 16th over by Hodges, Ekins, Crookall and Beswick saw 9 runs saved when Horsham started to hit out and by the end of this over they needed 23 runs - Game on.
We never make it easy and with 1 over to go with 6 runs required and Horsham 8 wickets down brought tension to the face off all supporters. An excellent run out by Armstrong Wood on the 4 ball , meant that Horsham needed 3 runs of the last 2 balls.
Hodges bowled the ball, J King hit the ball to Mid Off, Beswick picked up the ball and ran to the stumps and ran out King going for his 2nd run. Finch had won with 1 ball to spare. Cheers and celebrations erupted on the pitch and all who had come to watch, "Hearts filled with Pride".
It was the ending to a fine summer and one that will be rembered by all that played and can be proud to know they played in a side that came 3rd in the Region and 11th out of the country at the age of 15.
