10-07-2011 - Away - ECB National KO - Chipstead Coulsdon vs Finch
On a rather damp wicket, Finchampstead having won the toss decided to bat, a decsion made by stand in Captain Tom Bale as Billy Beswick was unavailable.
A new opening partnership commenced the Finch Innings with Miles Anderson and Oliver Ekins setting about achieving a total that would be defendable. The going was slow as the wicket was wet, which made it hard to score runs, However the 2 openers seem to beware of the situation and put on 26 runs before the 1st wicket fell. Ollie Armstrong Wood then came to the crease and was caught quite early in to his innings.
Miles Anderson however took the situation in his stride and continued to punish the bad ball. All though the ground looked big, not very many 4`s where scored and with Luke Mills batting at the other end the boys pushed the score on with Miles having to retire after reaching 51.
With the quick loss of Lincoln, a key player and Brown,Bale and Wroot and our U 13 player Sam Jenkins pushed the total on to 125 for 6. Some thought that this was enough, others felt it was 20 runs short. The bowling attack of Chipstead Coulsdon was good, but 19 wides let them down. Some fine fielding and bowling with A Boosey taking 3 wickets.
It was now game on for Finchampstead and they where going to have to bowl and field well.
Captian Tom Bale changed the opening bowling attack and it paid off with a wicket in the 3 over.
However Chipstead Coulsdon number 3 batsman had plans to get the target Finchampstead had set and with the loss of their other opener(Woodfood), Simpson ( no 3) and Percival ( no 4) started to punish the bowling attack. However the Finach captain made a change of bowling that slowed down Chipstead and Coulsdon and suddenly they started to find it hard to score runs, The odd drop catch didn`t help us, but a suberb catches by Oliver Crookall and Oliver Ekins dismissed key batsmen and with Liam Coldwell fired up and ready to see the game off, Finch won by 9 runs.
A fairly even contest, but our team spirit and all players playing their part sees us through to the next round.
