24-07-2011 - Away - ECB National KO - Bedford CC vs Finch
Having beat the Surrey champions Chipping Coulsdon, the U15`s now travelled to Bedfordshire to play Bedford CC.
Finchampstead loss the toss and the opposition elected to bat, the first 3 overs saw Bedford CC score 24 runs, some irratic bowling caused by nerves which seemed to be present in all the bowlers/fielders, The taking of a wicket seemed to calm Finchampstead down and the boys started to play better,
A few excellent shots from the opposition batsman J Holmes and S Patel saw the heads of the Finch boys drop, but a change in bowling and some excellent fielding saw the boys regain control. After 10 overs Bedford had 69 runs on the board with the loss of 1 wicket,
After drinks Lincoln and Anderson " took the pace of the ball" and this seemed to work with only the opposition scoring 4 an over. Another change of bowling saw Mills brought back in to the attack with Bale at the other end and for the final 4 overs between them they took 5 wickets . Bedford reached 139 for the loss of 7 wickets.
Finchampsteads target was 140, which just so happened to be what the Finch captain had predicted.
Parents and boys sought refreshment and settled down and prepared for stage 2.
Beswick and Anderson took to the crease and set about achieveing the target set, a few fine shots and irratic bowling, saw Finch on 34 after 4 overs we were doing okay. The loss of a wicket in the 7th over saw Armstrong come to the crease and also a change in bowling from Bedford ( Spin). This seemed to restrict Finchampstead and with the loss of 2 wickets just before 10 overs saw that Bedford where on top. But they hadn`t accounted for a gutsy performace from Lincoln and supported by initial Armstrong and then Bale, that saw Finchampstead reach 138 in the 18.5 over. A missed timed shot saw Bale return to the clubhouse with Finchampstead requiring 4 runs of the last over.
Josh Lincoln faced the bowling attack from Dhandha, dot ball, dot ball, dot ball . The spectators on the edge, parents nervous and shaking and in ran Dhanhda to have his fourth ball hit straight back at him and go on to the boundary for 4 runs. With 2 balls to spare Finchampstead had won.
A fantastic game, played in the right spirit and one that will be remembered by all that played and watched. A big thank you must go to all parents, relatives who came to support in person, but also to all that waited for updates from mobile phones and to those boys that didn`t get to bat and bowl but where just as important in the win.
