26-06-2010 - Home - TVL - Finch vs North Maidenhead

5s narrowly beaten by N Maids

On the hottest day of the year so far the stand in skipper won an imortant toss and had little hesitation in deciding to bat. 233 - 5 later the Finches (old and young) were pretty happy with the efforts especially Tom Mitchell who made a fine 91 and "Daddee" Dave Marles a carreer best 48. How they would have dearly loved an extra 11 runs shared perectly between them!

However the late arrival of the opposition meant that tea was only over by 5.45 and the Finches were forced to the field with only 10 men after the early and planned departure of their new found star batsman Mitchell. The ball departing over cow corner (sorry is that wide mid on!) and sqaure leg became a familiar site as N Maids got away fast aided by some dropped catches and the slightly too frequent four ball.

Wickets did fall steadily however particularly to the spin Max S and Tony M (3 for 72 and 3 for 64 respectively). Max bowling two good spells totalling 15 overs with three stumpings (two from the junior pair) and one from a very wide McDowell tweaker for Josh L the highlights.

At 8 down and still 20 odd short the Finches thought they were in with a chance and with Mike Wroots arms shredded and bleeding from frequent sorties to the officers mess bushes the Finches were rallied.

Unfortunately the late start was to further penalise the home side and with Woody timed out the gaps were even harder to plug and with the N Miads tail enders continuing in the style of the their predecessors the visitors went through to victory with  a couple of lusty mows and about 3 overs remaining.

A good game played in good spirit.
