Fifths Stopped by the Weather

An away trip to OMT can always throw up an odd result and so it prooved for the unlucky Finches as victory attempts over OMT 3 were thwarted by heavy rain whilst other sides managed to play.

OMT won the toss and asked Finch to bat on a damp green wicket which looked like a good decision as soon Potter (Snr) was out top edging behind sqaure for 0. McLean however was steady at the other end as he and Marles Snr (14) put on 73 for the next wicket. The arrival of Martin Jubb soon however changed the tempo as the short boundary was regularly peppered and OMT had to consider further catching practice sessions.

First Jubb went through to his maiden hundred (128*) and then McLean (101*) to the rapturous applause of their watching team mates. A quick 286 - 2 in only 42 overs was enough for Pots who called them in. Only the pedestrian OMT over rate, the weather and having to organise the drinks, cloths, spare balls and everything else dampening the spirits.

Rain over tea looked set to further dampen the proceedings and so it turned out as the showers bacame more consistent,  the old ball wetter and the pitch eventually waterlogged with OMT struggling at 55 - 4.  The spin duo of JJ (3-13) and Potz Jnr (1-27) created enough chances to have put OMT further behind but found the Finch side unusually slightly off its game in the field. However a win never looked possible in the 19 overs bowled and Finch had to be content with 12 points.

It remains to be seen how significant a part the weather here plays in the 5th teams seasons return.
