30-05-2009 - Away - TVL - Bagshot vs Finch

Baggies shot down by Finches

The toss was lost on a mossy surface and Bagshot gave the young Finches the ball. A fast start for Bagshot with two dropped chances and the ball disappearing through the fence was to the visitors credit reeled in by two wickets for Jack McLean and a tidy spell from Pete Bulteel.

The introduction of spin changed the picture again for Finch with debutant JJ Dewes completing a super spell of  4 for 30 in 12 whilst the scoring was kept under some control by the Spin Twins [Tom's Potter (1 for 36) and Bale 0 - 14)] at the other end.

Mitchell was then re-introduced to the attack, his luck improved with the help of a youthful Bagshot umpire, as he nipped out the last pair, completing a useful 8 overs, 2 for 23 leaving Bagshot all out 194 in the 48th.

After tea it was the Finches turn to bat on the moss. Potter Snr and Marles Jnr coming under some pressure from the Bagshot captain, Sutherland's useful off cutters early on. Easily the pick of the Bagshot attack things were not so tidy from the other end as the bad balls were dispatched by the openers. The stand was nearly interrupted by two close LBW shouts and a dropped chance from Potter however the partnership gathered momentum reaching 100 shortly followed by 50 for the captain. Dan Marles' maiden half century was greeted with a cheer by the watching batters as the opening stand progressed past the 150 mark and was only ended with the score on 178 as Marles was well caught puilling to mid wicket.

The talk of a 10 wicket trumping silenced, Potters Snr (79 no) and Jnr (4 no) completed the rout with 16 overs to spare.

The Finches returned to the Memorial Ground for beer (some) and J2O (others) leaving Bagshot to search for any reference to the position of the wicket keeper in the unfair bowling no ball law.
