22-05-2010 - Away - TVL - Eversley vs Finch

Rosey ton fails to beat Eversley

A fantastic 132 not out from Ian Rose failed to push Finch to a huge Eversley total on the small, bumpy second ground.

Having won the toss and decided to field, Finch disappoingly put in a ragged performance with the ball and on the field to allow the Eversley upper order to reach 272 off 50 overs. A total of 8 dropped catches, although punctuated by a Nigel Davis snaffler and an amazing Kanki boundary steepler,  meant no consistent pressure applied to what was likely to be a long Eversely tail. Notably Rosey also bowled 17 overs for 2 wickets - a brave effort for our resident "sicknote".

The Finch innings started poorly, with honeymoon boy Malcolm Blogg falling to the first delivery - don't think that overly impressed the new missus (nor us). Scott Osler and Alex Jones playing shots and both were bowled for lower totals than they should have achieved. Nigel Davis, back in the team after a season off, battled bravely but looked unsurprisinlgy looked short of form. Rosey, coming in at 5, then set about what was a limited Eversley attack. Recovering from a nasty beamer, he hammered the bowling to all corners with a dazzling array of stroked. Simmo kept an end going, sociring only 20 from a partnership of 76, before somehow dragging a sweep onto his off stump. With senior pro's Cap'n Bob and Kevin Andrew to come, it started to look as though a shock could be on the cards - however both fell to injudicous shots, leaving Rosey to have a comedy run-out situation with Kanki.

132 not out, 17 overs and no catches dropped by on eplayer should have meant Finch clinching their first win of the season, however the rest of the team collectively failed to reach the required standard on a  generally disappointing and searing hot day.
