Finch topple league leaders

Cap’n Bob proved what could be done with a balanced bowling attack when Finch toppled league-toppers Hurst in a low-scoring match at the Leas.Hurst couldn’t recover from  an pacey onslaught of tight, accurate bowling from James Osler, Dan Foster (2 wickets), Andy Stevenson (2), Tom Mitchell (3) and T J Smith (3).  James was especially unlucky to miss out on the wickets, regularly beating the bat (and sometimes the ‘keeper) in a fine 9 over spell.   Coupled with some super fielding and catching (just the one in the slips this week, though) Hurst were skittled out for an under par score of 144 in only 42 overs.

A tea-time downpour freshened up the wicket, however, and a strong Finch line-up faced some slippery bowling from Hurst’s spin-twins Gillingham and Harvey. Tom Hopkin kept his nerve with an uncharacteristically steady 43 not out, with less notable contributions from openers Blogg and  CB.TJ’s 2^nd innings of the season saw him back an undoubted talent with some strong running to ensure no Finch collapse.

Watched by some fine Finchampstead players of yesteryear, this was a fitting and deserved victory – the first for the season !
