Hamster knaws on Marlow

Skipper Loveday won the toss and inserted a confident Marlow after their win against Bagshot last week. It was a good and true deck but Loveday hoped to get full use of any early movement or help from the surface. A fine opening spell from Phil West produced a wicket and true hope that the younger (and better looking West) could well go on to be Finches trusted opening bowler for the entire season. Control beyond his years lead to and early scalp after an aggressive start but the Marlow openers. Most of that aggression was aimed the way of James Cowie at the other end. Most of the balls that could be reached were dispatched and Marlow were of to a flyer despite West's best efforts.

Senior West (Steve) tried to halt the Marlow batters but couldn't find his usual fine lines so it was left to 'Hamster' Mark McInnes and he soon began to feast on the Marlow top order. Harper joined McInnes and together they handcuffed the batting side and runs almost completely dried up. Even though the Finches dropped several chances Marlow could not escape the treat of the Hamster (6-35) or the meaness of Poon.(1-26). 143 all out was not the kind of total the Marlow boys would have hoped for on this good pitch. Early wickets were need but Finch stared well with Brogan and Nephew Todd seeing the ball well. Both departed followed by McInnes and Alexander but the ship was steadied by Gary Loveday (52*) and Matt Harper (16*) to see finch to a 5 wicket victory and a top of the league 45 points.
