Overcast conditions with rain a treat at Burnham as Finchampstead were visitors in the premier league clash.
Finches asked Burnham to bat first a ploy bringing swift success with a wicket in the first over. But a resolute second wicket stand saw 46 on the board before the second dismissal. Then a bid stand set the game up for burnham with fine strokes from Mohammed Fazal and steady batting from Harvey Gandam. The pair saw 200 on the board before both were dismissed , Gandam for 46 and Fazal a superb 124. Burnham pressed on with both boundaries and wickets and closed at 285 for 9 in 55 overs. Little spin was used by Finches so three wickets apiece for Simon Hards and Darron Augustus.
Finchampstead were given the best possible start by Sam Cheetham and Matt Jones with an opening stand of 148. Then Cheetham was bowled by spinner Zulfi Butt for 46. Jones continued his fluent innings and stroked a magnificent 156 before being run out at 220. Finches then needed 66 at 10 an over with seven wickets in hand. Wickets fell to the tight bowling as Finches strived for the runs but ended short by 22 runs at 263 for 8 and the draw.
Finchampstead are in fourth place with a home match on Saturday against third placed Falkland.
