Brittle Finches snap again

Long standing opponents Beaconsfield were the visitors to Finchampstead on Saturday in the third premier league match.

Winning the toss, Finchampstead elected to field first.  This decision paid off in the early stages as the pacemen saw three wickets down with 24 on the board.  At 44 opener Shahid Mahmood was the second wicket for Darron Augustus.  But a determined stand of 68 saw 112 on the board before Shakeel Ahmed became the third victim for Augustus.  Despite the introduction of steady spin, Beaconsfield closed at 195 for 9 in 60 overs with skipper Paul Gurnell scoring 34.  Spinner Perviez Aziz returned 4 for 37 and Augustus 3 for 36.

Given 50 overs to bat, Finches had an early setback as Russell Lane was bowled by Tom Collins with just 5 on the board.  61 more runs were gathered in a partnership between Sam Cheetham 31, and Matt Jones 33.  But when they both departed to left arm spinner, Shakeel Ahmed, this instigated a remarkable collapse.  It started with Simon Bell run out in a mix up with the experienced spinner then removing the middle and lower order.  There were 6 “ducks” as Finches were dismissed for 113 in 42 overs to lose by 82 runs.  The spinner ensured the win for the visitors with a 6 for 31 return.
