Finchampstead made the short journey to Fleet on Saturday for the first senior side league meeting between the sides in many a season.
Hosts Fleet won the toss and elected to bat first. They faced the seam of Simon Hards and Sam Taylor for the opening overs. But real trouble arrived almost immediately for them. After just nine overs Fleet were reduced to 5 for 4 wickets. Skipper Russell Black was well caught by Tom Ansell off Taylor then fellow opener David Gurney was lbw to Hards. Then two more wickets for Taylor with a fine slip catch by Gary Loveday and another held  in the covers by Geoff Isaacs to leave Fleet reeling.
With 29 on the board Taylor secured his fourth wicket Jim Curd caught in the slips then one ball later Tim Downes played on to Hards for the sixth wicket. After 30 overs the score was 45 for 6. Some useful strokes from Steve Morgan saw the score to 70 when the fifth wicket for Taylor was assisted by a smart stumping by Simon Bell.
Spinners Matt Harper and Tom Potter now had joined the attack after 34 overs from the seamers. Harper gained two wickets between brave strokes from Morgan then Russell Lane wrapped the innings up by bowling Morgan for his 58. Fleet were all out for 109 in just over 45 overs. Fine bowling from Sam Taylor saw a return of 5 for 29 in 18 overs with Simon Hards 2 for 31 and Matt Harper 2 for 16.
The modest home score proved more than comfortably within the range of Finches. Openers Russell Lane and Gary Loveday hammered the Fleet attack from the first over. With shots all around the ground against five bowlers used the score was passed at 114 without loss in 12.4 overs. Lane was 59 not out and a straight six to win the match saw Loveday to 51 not out. So  a  second  20 point win and second slot in the table after two matches.
