Hards luck ends for Niggles

After two defeats and a drop in the table placings in division one Finchampstead needed improvement from their visit on Saturday to Beaconsfield.
Having won the toss skipper Matt Jones decided to bat first using regular batsmen Gary Loveday and Russell Lane to open the innings.  Both weathered well the early seam bowling of John Mahmood and Denzil Owen. Their fine batting saw 114 on the board before Lane was out for 65 caught off young spinner Matt Noyes.. Noyes then had Loveday stumped for 56 and his fine catch had Geoff Isaacs dismissed.
But the runs continued as Matt Jones proceeded to his half century with good support from Simon Bell and Tom Ansell. He was eventually out for 71 as the innings closed on 252 – 6 in 50 overs. The spinner Noyes took all six wickets for 79 runs.
Beaconsfield started steadily with openers  Andy Francis and David Heaviside against the seam of Sam Taylor and spin from JJ Dewes. Then Simon Hards joined the seam attack for a long spell with Taylor. At 56 three wickets were down with Hards claiming two of these. After Gary Loveday replaced Taylor two further wickets fell at 72 both to Hards. Then Loveday claimed his first wicket and at 96 the fifth for Hards saw overall seven down.
The inevitable end came swiftly with the last three Beaconsfield wickets falling without scores. They were all out for 110 in 34 overs. The fine bowling from Simon Hards saw him achieve 6 – 38 with two for Gary Loveday. The welcome 25 points boosted Finches to a merited mid table position.
