29-07-2010 - Home - Bracknell & Dist Eve Cricket League - Finch vs Sandhurst
Having lost the toss and put in to bat on what looked like a bowler’s wicket, Charlie Alexander and Andrew House, after the early loss of skipper Alex Jones, set upon the bowlers to provide a good opening partnership of 77. Simon Bell then replaced Andrew after he was going for another 6, and another good partnership was completed with 152 on the board after 11 overs. Marcus Bazley and Nathan Clarke came to the crease and remained not out for Finch to reach 204 for 4 of 16 overs.
Shalom and Armed set about Finch’s opening bowlers Dylan Augustus and Liam Matthews with 29 off the first 2 overs but then Dylan adjusted his length and Liam introduced some slower balls and both got control of the situation so that only 8 more runs were scored off the next two overs. Both bowlers continued their control with another over each and Liam collected 2 wickets. This was good captaincy by Alex. This season Dylan has always maintained disciplined bowling and Liam having moved up to opening bowler has just got better and better with a more controlled run up. Adam Davey having not had a bat was brought on to try his leg-spin and what a first couple of overs it was, 5 for 2 off the first then 12 of the 2nd. Unfortunately his last over was ‘orrible’ with 6’s and 4's scored proving that all glory is fleeting. At the other end Marcus Bazley’s off spin keep things tight and he collected 2 wickets. Sandhurst was by this stage bowled out of the game on 129 off 11. Justin Clarke and Simon Bell mopped up with Simon rewarded with 2 wickets. The fielding was excellent as usual and Justin held 3 catches including a caught and bowled along with a juggled catch at mid wicket with hands, knees and feet appearing to your humble reporter that he was just showing off without realising he had not actually got control of the ball at the time. Scotty Osler kept well. Sandhurst completed on 170 for 9 off 16 overs, 34 runs short, in the evening dusk which had a chill in the air. For Finch, having lost it’s only game to Sandhurst this season, this was revenge best served on a cold plate.
What a fantastic season this has been, year end report will follow.
