23-07-2010 - Away - Bracknell & Dist Eve Cricket League - BFBC vs Finch

U19 and Friends win Midweek Cup Final

Finch retain Midweek League Knockout Cup

Under leaden skies Finch won the toss and elected to bat on a well prepared Bracknell CC pitch, especially after all the rain this week.  With BFBC (Bracknell Forrest Borough Council (affectionately known in the league as the bin men.) having ‘invited’ some talented cricketers, all above board of course, this was not going to be easy.  Charlie Alexander and Alex Jones took on the bowlers with Charlie stroking his cover drives and Alex smoting 6’s having provided a fine partnership of 128 by the 11th over. Phil West and Simon Bell helped move the score along to 153 off 14 but the slow spin of Shacklady collected 5 for 20 off 3 overs to restrict Finch to 172 for 7 off the allotted 16 8 ball overs. A most unfortunate run out suffered by Adam Davey with the resulting discussion will remain in the locker room.
Considering BFBC scored 165, chasing 219 for 3 against Finch in a league game the previous week, this was going to be close.
But the opening bowling partnership Jonny Aston and Dylan Augustus restricted BFBC to only 43 for the first 7 overs with Jonny collecting 3 well deserved wickets.  The spin bowling of Simon Bell and JJ Dewes (yet another exceptional young spin bowler making his way) continued the good work with Simon collecting 3 wickets and a rather snappy run out contributed to BFBC being kept to 89 for 7 off 13 overs.  Liam Matthews pace and Scotty Osler’s spin completed the job with BFBC closing on 115 for 8 and the cup retained by Finch in this their second year of the Bracknell Evening league.  A most entertaining summary of the match by the Chairman of the league Andrew Elliott completed the evening with Charlie awarded man of the match.
