Finch Flyers Win against Old Beans
On a warm summer evening stand-in skipper Matt Morris lost the toss and Finch took the field with a team well supported by the u17's in a Midweek league match against Old Beans. The opening bowlers, Matt Bell bowling wheels down the hill and Phil West from the pavillion end could not stop the attacking opening partnership of the Old Beans until Matt sent the off stump flying and keeper Ashley Hull athletically hit the stumps to effect a run-out. Sorry Westy, technically a run-out if the batsman attempts a run. Tony Smith and Matt Morris were unable to effect the free flowing attacking shots with the Beans on 136 after 12 overs but James Olser held onto a high one off Tony's bowling. Ben Fisher and James Osler stemmed the runs in the closing overs with both taking a wicket and Phil and Ben holding catches. Old Beans achieved 165 for 5 after the 16 8 ball overs, a par score.
Andrew House and Ashley opened for Finch and scored freely before Ashley and then a rare Dan Lincoln duck brought Ben fisher to the crease. A good partnership developed then Matt Morris joined Andrew. At this point it should be noted that Stephen Madgwick officiated most correctly at both ends throughout the game as Old Beans umpire had gone on walkabout. With Andrew on 84 and looking well set for his hundred Matt hit 5 6's off 5 balls in what turned out to be the Beans last over. Something to do with a bar-bet that Matt would not score a 6. Well Matt certainly did that 5 times over and no doubt reaped his reward in the bar later. Andrew played a class innings which saw Finch through to the win.
A good game played with good sportsmanship.
