Binfield win thriller on the last ball

Finch won the toss and chose to Bat in a very chilly but sunny evening.  Simon (43) and Charlie (71) made a good start.  Finch were on 121 for 2 after 8 overs.  Good contributions by David Bellis, Ashley Hull and Marcus Bazley moved the score on with Richard Madgwick and Matt Bell closing the innings 197 for 6 after 16 overs.  A score that would push Binfield who are currently top of the Chiltern League (with a game in hand apparently).

Mike Carson (860 started briskly and was quickly joined by Sean Ennis (36).  This was a very good partnership with Mike swinging his 3.2 pound log to loose Binfield a box of balls before falling to Matt Morris who had also scooped up Sean.  Binfield continued to keep up with the run rate but was rapidly loosing wickets.  Matt Morris the pick of the bowlers with a 5 for 43 off 4 overs.  Tony Smith, Matt Huggan and Matt Bell also collected a wicket each with some good glove work by Charlie.  Binfield need a run a ball from over 10 onwards.  But Matt Huggan pegged them back and then it was 12 to win off the last over.  Phil West kept it very tight and Binfield needed 4 off the last ball with everyone back on the boundary and their No 9 batsman J Browning facing. Surely a win for Finch was on the cards.  A big slog to square leg, David Bellis under the ball, he’s got it, he’s falling back, he throws it, it lands outside the rope, it’s a 6.  Binfield win the game.  Outstanding match, fine sportsmanship, good friends, cricket at its best.
