FINCH FLYERS V BINFIELD IN MIDWEEK 16 OVER LEAGUE GAME
With dark clouds looming a changed Finch side took to the field after the stand-in skipper, Marcus Bazley, lost the toss (continuing his near 100% record for the season!). Finch got off to a flying start with Tony Smith taking the vital wicket of Michael Carson, while Dylan Augustus bowled tightly from the other end. After 11 overs Finchampstead were looking good, reducing Binfield to just 74 for 6 with brilliant spells from Matt Huggan (3-0-21-2) and Phil West, who returned at the end to finish with outstanding figures of 4-0-27-4. Despite the strong start, Binfield started to slip away due to a fast 72 from their captain. Nevertheless they were restricted to 157 from their 16 overs, which seemed perfectly achievable.
With the light failing and the dark sky looking increasingly ominous, Finch’s opening pair of Adam Davey and Marcus Bazley came to the crease. Once more Finch got off to a good start, the opening pair peering through the gloom to get the initial run rate above 10 an over (assisted by a well placed Binfield helmet!), before losing two wickets in quick succession. Nevertheless, Finch were still looking strong with Bazley not out 22 and plenty of batting to come, but only 5 overs into the innings the heavens finally opened leaving Finch on 45 for 2 when the game was abandoned.
All in all a good performance and a shame the weather intervened in what looked like being the second close game between the sides this season. MB
