Narrow First Defeat For U9 Falcons

Finchampstead U9 Falcons took part in a close fought encounter with Royal Ascot Bears this week, narrowly losing off the final over. A solid, if once again ambitious batting performance saw the Falcons amass 277, however having lost 9 wickets along the way (including several excellent catches from the Ascot fielders) were left with a below-par net score of 232. Amongst the runs were Owen Powell enjoying his first knock of the season (including one glorious pulled six) and Sam Dunks who hit some lusty blows at the end.
 
Once again the bowling was excellent, with Kieran and Jamie Brown, Lucas Bamber and Matt Dalrymple all bowling tightly.The ground fielding was also of the highest quality, and included one spectacular run-out by Sam Dunks, however "catches win matches" and 3 dropped catches were always going to prove costly. The last over started with Ascot 2 runs behind, however although only 1 run was taken from the bat, a couple of wides gave the tie (deservedly overall) to Ascot.
