Finch U9 Eagles Victorious Over Falkland
Finchampstead Eagles put in an excellent display against Falkland on the 18th May, 2008. Falkland batted first and Luke Andrews got Finchampstead off to a dream start, bowling their opening bat with first ball of the match. Luke continued his spell with consistent right arm over, medium pace.
Luke was followed by Nick West whose great action kept Falkland at bay. Thomas Tinsley was the second Finch bowler to get a batsman out with his 1st ball. Brandon kept the runs down to a minimum, as did Joe Loveday, Ben Cole and the stylish Tommy Predgen.
Nick West claimed a fine wicket in his second spell, and when Dan Cooper came onto bowl the fastest overs of the day were seen. William Edwards capped a good fielding display with a wicket maiden.
Finch’s fielding display was very encouraging. The boys were backing up well and Matthew Eldridge took a fine catch off William’s bowling.
Falklands set a target of 228 , and from the first pairing of Matt Eldridge and Joe Loveday it was clear that Finchampstead’s batting was going to see them through. The calling and running between wickets was excellent, a credit to all!
The opening pair of Joe and Matthew, made the most of Joe’s well timed shots, running 3’s when only 1’s seemed possible. Tommy crashed the ball to all parts with 5 fours, one of which he and his partner Dan Cooper ran!
In his first innings of the season, Ben hit a fine four supported by Thomas Tinsley who also batted well. Nick and Brandon, who faced some very difficult bowling ( !) , managed to manufacture some fine shots including a 4 from Nick. William and Luke added further runs to seal the win.
The boys won with a fine display of consistent bowling, good fielding and tremendous running in between wickets.
