24-06-2008 - Home - Herald Cup - Finch vs Witley

u17 thru to Herald Cup semi final

Finch u17 openers Charlie Alexander 61 and Adam Davey 75 not out started with aggression
and had reached 114 in the 12th over before loosing the first wicket. Matt Morris
then Marcus Bazley joined Adam to complete the 20 overs with Finch on 162 for 2. Witley
must have rued insisting upon no batting retirements for this qtr final.
Witley started aggressively but was well matched by Tony Smith and Matt Bell especially Matt's
pace and adjustment when their opening batsman kept charging him but Witley were well up on
the run rate at the 5th over. Skipper Matt Morris made an excellent decision to bring himself
on and promptly dismissed both openers. At the other end Matt Huggan neatly collected 2 wickets
with economical figures. Alex Walton then joined and also bowled economically.
Anish Koshal 5 runs for 3 wickets off 2 overs and James Osler 9 for 2 off 2, completed the
job, bowling out Witley for 104 off 18.4 overs. Finch fielding and catches were top quality.
It is a shame this performance was not there against Guildford but the u17's should get their
chance to redress this in the semi-final which is also at Finch with Guildford the likely opponents.
