30-06-2010 - Home - BYCL - Finch vs Wokingham
The Falcons made it three wins in a row, with a victory against a determined and skilled Wokingham XI. The Falcons lost the toss and were put into bat on a dry pitch that produced unpredictable movement from the ball. From the outset, the boys refused to be intimidated by an aggressive and accurate Wokingham attack. Racing away to 66 for the loss of one wicket, after 10 overs, the Falcons secured a significant score with an assured batting display. With Lucas Bamber (28), Will Edwards (26) and Owen Powell (27) all retiring and Tommie Predgen providing a useful 13 runs, the Falcons achieved their highest total of the season reaching 142 for 3.
While this was a challenging total, it was obvious that Wokingham fancied their chances of overtaking it. The Falcons stood-up to this by producing perhaps one of their best displays in the field for the whole season. A mixture of generally accurate bowling was complemented by the Falcons taking their catches (Sam LD off the bowling of Kieran Brown; Sam Dunks from the bowling of Tommie Predgen) and claiming four excellent run outs from laser sharp throws to the stumps from Sam Dunks, Lucas Bamber (twice) and James Woodford. In addition, Lucas and James Millard removed two of Wokingham’s danger men. At 39 for 2, after 10 overs, Wokingham were well behind the run rate and even a defiant 20 NO from their number five batsman could not move them into a winning position. After the end of their 20 overs, Wokingham had reached 109 for 8 and the Falcons could celebrate a professional 33 run victory.
