20-05-2010 - Away - BYCL - Reading vs Finch

Falcon's wings clipped in sobering defeat

Following the promising win that kicked-off their season, the competitive nature of the BYCL was quickly brought home to the Falcons through a painful loss by a skilled and committed Reading XI. Winning the toss Reading chose to bat first. For the first 10 overs they were made to work hard for their runs, and with two good run outs and an efficient stumping from Tommie Pregdgen the game was finely balanced with the hosts reaching 55 for 3. However, for the remaining 10 overs of their innings Reading ruthlessly exploited poor fielding and over-generous bowling to reach a challenging score of 153 for the loss of just one more wicket.

The Falcons would have to bat to the best of their ability if they were to secure victory. While wickets fell at regular intervals, after 10 overs the Falcons were still in-touch at 47 for 4, but soon found themselves unable to respond to the pressure from a strong Reading Bowling attack. Despite a defiant 22 NO from Will Edwards, the Falcons were all out for 86 in the 17th over. It is now important for the Falcons to pick themselves up for their next match and learn from this experience.
