Falcons keep the winning habit

The Falcons continued their winning ways with a victory away to Emmbook and Bearwood CC. Winning the toss and asking their hosts to bat first, the Falcons had the opposition reeling after a successful opening spell from Thomas Tinsley and Sam Lawton-Davies, who both recorded a maiden and took a wicket in their two overs. At 5 for 2 the Falcons sensed that they could restrict Emmbrook to a low total. However, Emmbrook showed resilience pushing the score along to 34 for the loss of only one more wicket after 10 overs. The Falcons then applied pressure on Emmbrook’s batting order, restricting them to an average of less than four an over and taking a further five wickets. Sam Dunks and Joe Loveday claimed a wicket each, while Lucas Bamber along with Joe also registered maiden overs. However, the pick of the bowlers was Ben Simmons who finished with three wickets for his two overs. A final total of 72 for 7 allowed hope of victory for the Falcons.

Despite losing a wicket in the first over, the Falcons made good progress towards their target, reaching 53 for 3 after 10 overs - with Lucas Bamber playing a key role in this retiring on 25. While there was a small wobble over the next five overs with the loss of three wickets, Sam Lawton-Davies helped see the Falcons home (finishing on 15 NO) and their target was reached with 29 balls to spare. It is important to recognise that Emmbrook had strength through their bowling and gave away very few extras – the Falcons had to concentrate fully in their batting in order to secure victory.
