Match Report Finchampstead 4 V Windsor 4 19th July 2008
Finches fall to division leaders
Windsor won the toss and invited Finch to bat first.
A good start was required against the divisions’ leaders and this is what Matt and David provided. David took command of the early overs and scored freely whilst Matt kept the other end in tact. David was caught with the score on 50 having scored 32 at a brisk pace. Tom joined Matt and promptly hit 20 from his first 15 balls without bothering to run. This pair moved the score onto 91 when Matt was bowled, also for 32. Tom carried on scoring well and with Alex playing his shots the score moved onto 156 before Alex departed for 31. Tom kept the score ticking over and Ben again added some useful runs. Tom was out for a good 57 and is in a good seam of form at the moment. Ashley Hull came and went for 6 and James for 0 before Mike joined Ben at the crease. We saw some of the old Mike in this innings, looking for the gaps for easy runs and hitting the bad ball for 4 and the only 6 of the innings. Mike was looking good when Ben called him through for a quick single which proved inches to far for the old boys’ legs (it was close) and his innings ended on 23. Ben was next to go for a well earned 36. Justin hit 7 from 10 balls, which included a maiden. Bobby was 6 not out and Westie faced only 2 balls. The Finch innings finished on 239 for 9 from 52 to set a reasonable target for Windsor.
The Windsor innings did not start well with Finch taking a wicket in the second over, with Ashley taking a catch off the bowling of Justin with the score on 0.West then got among the wickets taking the next 2 both with the help of Ashley’s catching. This left Windsor on 44 for 3 off 9 overs. Finch had to wait until the 16 over for the next wicket, a sharp catch behind the stumps by Matt off the bowling of Mike. With James adding another wicket, courtesy of a catch by Ben, Windsor were looking in some bother with the score on 96 for 6 from 19 overs. This brought the two most experienced Windsor batsmen to the crease and they consolidated their position before moving the scoring rate up to the required level. Bobby rotated his bowlers but in the end did not have the power to dislodge the batsmen and they gradually upped the run rate and won with overs to spare.
This loss leaves Finch 41 points behind Windsor in second place and they will have to win all their remaining games to mount a threat to Windsor.
