Finch chase down a score

Finch won the toss and invited Thatcham  to bat first,

Finch were short of an opening bowler for the first stint and started with West and Simmonite (not sure when Mike last opened the bowling). The first wicket went down with the score on 29 to a good catch behind the stumps off the bowling of West. Mike bowled a 9 over spell for 52 runs, which was not a bad return on a batting wicket. With the score on 38, West took another wicket with David Davies holding a sharp chance at slip. West also had a hand in the next wicket, with a good throw from the deep to run-out the Thatcham batter, leaving them on 72 for 3. Thatcham then put some pressure on Finch with a 100 run partnership, which was ended with a catch for Jonny Gaffney off the bowling of Adam Davey. Another wicket went down for just one run added and West was in the action again, taking a catch off the bowling of Gaffney. Two more wickets went down thanks to West running-out one and bowling the other. This must rate as the West show this week. The Thatcham innings finished on 263 for 7.

Finch needed to be positive with their batting and this proved the case with Matt and David adding 61 in 11 overs before David was bowled for 21. Matt was joined by Tom Pask and they kept the scoring rate up. Matt played some good straight drives and eventually fell for 58 with the score on 110. Tom and Jonny Gaffney moved the score onto 122 before Tom was out, caught on the deep mid wicket boundary. This brought Adam Davey to the crease and the two of them took the game away from Thatcham. All the shots were played with both players pulling,cutting and driving almost at will. By the 40th over the Thatcham players shoulders had dropped to their boots, and the two young Finch players saw the team home with 4 overs to spare. Jonny finishing with a well played 88 not-out and Adam again scoring well for 43not-out

Finch keep up the momentum and this win takes them to 2nd place in the division.
