Finch back to winning ways
Finch needed to bounce back after last weeks shock defeat and with Bobby O away the captaincy fell to Matt Lay for the first time.
First job done, Matt won the toss and put Odiham in to bat.
The first 4 wickets fell for 85 and with 23 overs gone things looked good for Finch. All 4 wickets fell to catches, with 2 for David Davies and 2 for Rambo, Rambo’s second the result of a good plan between him and Simmo. David Martin and Phil West were the other bowlers to profit from the good fielding.
Odiham then staged a bit of a comeback with a 5th wicket stand of 83 which was ended by Jonny Gaffney bowling the danger man for Odiham, with the score on 168. Wickets then fell at regular intervals with West taking 3 more, 2 from regulation catches from the keeper, and 1 from a caught and bowled. Gaffney picked up his second wicket and Ashley Hull took the last wicket in his only over. Odiham finished on 191 for 10.
With 56 overs to get the runs Finch did not need to panic, and went off at a steady pace with 40 from the first 10 overs. Matt Lay was the first to go for 33 in a stand worth 45 with David Davies. Tom Hopkins joined David and went of like a train with 24 from his first 18 balls. David went LBW for 23 with the score on 76. Jonny Gaffney and Tom then took the match away from Odiham and apart from a slow period mid innings won the game for Finch in the 51st over. Tom played some good shots, driving well through the off side and ended 80 not out. Jonny was 45 not out at the end.
This was a good win for Finch and keeps them right in the hunt for promotion.
