Finches Leave it late
Finch won the toss and invited Hurst to bat first.
With one of our opening bowlers on holiday, Justin Clarke partnered David Martin for the opening spell. The first wicket fell with the score on 4 in the 3rd over, James Osler holding on to a catch off the bowling of Martin. The second wicket was an all Osler affair with James taking the edge and Bob catching the rebound off first slip’s hands. James added to his tally by removing the Hurst batsman’s off stump taking the score to 66 for 3. A 62 run partnership held Finch up but was ended by Bobby, the score now 128 for 4. A second stand was building but came to an end after 39 runs were added when Adam Davey induced a false shot and David Martin took the catch. This started a period of play when Adam and Justin took the last 4 wickets to fall for 26 runs with 2 catches and a stumping for Matt and a clean bowled by Adam. The Hurst innings finishing on 197 for 9 from 50 overs.
Following last week’s efforts this did not seem a daunting total to chase, funny how things turn out.
Some tight bowling kept the scoring rate down and Matt was first to go for 19 caught at cover point chasing a wide one with the score on 31 from 10 overs (not quite like last week). David Davies went next without adding to the score. Andrew House played himself in and then proceeded to score heavily in short spurts (20 off 10 balls), which was followed by no runs for the same number of balls. Adam Davey seemed to struggle for runs in this match and went for only 6 (a failure for him after his performances over the last few weeks). Ben Fisher again showed what he is capable of and with Andrew put on 99 runs to put Finch on the road to a win with the score at 169 after 38 overs. Ben fell for 40 but Andrew went on to a fine 76 before being caught. 8 overs to get 29 runs, a formality you might think. AlexJones could not put bat on ball and with darkness approaching neither could Rambo. Things began to get very tight when all of a sudden Alex started to connect with the ball and runs started to flow. 6 were needed off the last over and 2 twos and a single from the first 3 balls edged Finch nearer the finish line. A leg bye from the fourth ball could have resulted in a run out, but Rambo used all his experience of judging a run to good effect and the game was won.
This win keeps Finch in second place with a visit to leaders Windsor next Saturday.
