3rd Win for Finch

Finch won the toss and invited Henley to bat first.

With the regular Finch opening bowlers missing from action Bobby opened with West and Clarke who bowled like seasoned old  players rather than the colts they are. They kept the Henley batsmen searching for runs. West bowled 11 overs in 2 spells and finished with excellent figures of for 3 for 30. Clarke also bowled well and he ended with good figures of 9 overs 2 for 26. At this point Dillon Augustus joined the attack and bowled 6 overs 3 maidens 3 for 1, a really good spell, and helped check the Henley fight back. Apart from a middle order stand the Finch bowlers kept on top of the Henley batting with Bobby O taking 2 wickets and Adam Davey 1; the Henley innings ended on 143.  There were catches for Bobby O,Tom Pask, Matt Lay and David Davis.

 

Things did not look good for Finch as some excellent slow bowling accounted for the openers with only 14 on the board. This was particularly frustrating for Matt Lay as he had seen off the quick bowler and was looking to move the score along against the spinner. This bought Tom Pask to the crease for his first match of the season and it looked like he had never been away. After a cautious start he dealt mainly in boundaries, hitting 7 fours and 5 sixes in an innings of 72 not out, at almost a run a ball. He was ably assisted by Adam Davey who played his part in the match winning stand and ended on 46 not out, also at a very healthy run rate. This was Henley’s first defeat for eighteen months and keeps up the momentum for Finch.
