07-06-2008 - Away - TVL - Eversley vs Finch

2nd win of the season for Finch 4's

Eversley won the toss and invited Finch to bat first,

This match took place at Camberley Rugby club on a very soft pitch following the rain earlier in the week. Playing on some of these recreational pitches brings home to the players what great pitches Paul prepares each week at Finch.

It looked like the decision to insert the visitors was a good one when David Bellis went for 1 in the third over. This brought Marcus Bazley to the wicket and the score started to pick up as he and Matt Lay came to terms with the conditions. The second wicket went at 56, Matt Lay bowled, play around a straight one for 20. David Davis joined Marcus and played another steady innings. Marcus played well, scoring most of his boundaries from the cut shot, and was next to go for a good 39. David took his score onto 40 before being bowled (at least you got out of the thirties David). Adam Davey failed by his recent excellent standards and went for 11; Dan Lincoln again played well for his 22, and a quick 23 from Ben Fisher along with 10 between the Osler boys James and Bobby took the Finch score to 206 for 7at 52 overs.

The Finch opening pair of bowlers was again Dave Mason and David Martin and they both bowled well. Dave Mason picked up a wicket but only conceded 22 runs from his 7 over spell. David Martin also bowled a tight spell and finished with figures of 3 for 23 from 7 overs including a superb reflex catch off his own bowling. Eversley could not mount any sort of reply as Marcus Bazley bowled 6 overs for 9 runs. The home side’s inability to score off of Marcus gave the other Finch bowlers plenty of opportunities for wickets as they sought to break free. Last week Bobby Osler started to look like a bowler and this week continued the improvement by taking 5 for 17 from 9.1 overs including 2 in 2 balls, but failed to take the hat trick wicket. James bowled a short 4 overs spell and joined in the fun with a wicket. The fielding was good and as last week the catches were shared 2 for David Bellis and 1 each for David Martin, Ben Fisher and Matt Lay. Eversley finishing all out for 93

This 25 point win moved the 4’s up the table and the team is looking to keep up the improvement next week
