First team come second in Local Derby
It was second placed against third in the local derby on Saturday as Wokingham faced Finchampstead.
Finchampstead having been asked to bat first were soon in trouble as opener Russell Lane was dismissed in the first over. This paved the way for some resolute batting from Sam Cheetham and Matt Jones who set out on a good partnership of steady batting against the initial pace and the introduction of the spin of Dan Doran. At the lunch interval with 127 on the board each had scored 53. The pair put on 185 before both were dismissed by Dan Doran. Their fine stand saw 92 for Jones and 88 for Cheetham. The innings closed at 247 for 6 in 60 overs rather short of the hoped for total. With good bowling from Rahu Thava with three wickets and 25 overs from Doran they restricted the scoring rate for Wokingham.
Wokingham set about the total with some fine strokes from Ruki Soza until he was caught with 38 on the board. As with the visitors this paved the way for a second wicket partnership of 130 as Dan Doran and skipper Martin Bushell scored freely. The partnership ended as Bushell was caught for 70. But Doran advanced to a well earned century to set up the win. Despite some sound batting from Simon Myles middle order wickets fell before boundaries from Sam Hirst saw Wokingham home with two overs remaining. They were 249 for 6 with Russell Lane taking 3 for 27. A good and well fought derby match consolidating the table positions for both clubs.
