21-06-2008 - Home - HCP - Finch vs Wokingham

After the Lord Mayors Show...

Finches were unable to produce the drama or form of last weekend as they came up against a solid Wokingham outfit for this long awaited local derby.

Wet overnight conditions were no deterrent as the ground was fit for play at the due starting time.  Wokingham were asked to bat first in the still overcast conditions.  They soon lost Aussie Dan Duran LBW to Simon Hards and after solid starts from the skipper Martin Bushell and Ruki Soza they lost two wickets at 62 then the fourth at 67.  But then a fine 116 run stand saw the score to 183 when Dan Reddyhough was dismissed for a well played 61.  More runs followed as Tom Jones joined Rahul Thava and their stand produced 53 runs.  After Thava was stumped for an excellently played 83, the innings ended at 267 for 8 in the 60 allotted overs.  There was a 3 for 80 return for Simon Hards and 2 apiece for Steve Bloyce and Darren Augustus.

The early response needed was not there as Russell Lane departed in the first over well caught at wicket by Gareth Fry.  Scott Patterson departed at 26 in a good spell of bowling by Martin Wilson.  Then a good 77 stand saw the 100 up before Matt Jones was caught for 41.  With 3 more wickets falling by 127, Finches were in some difficulty with 6 down.  But steady batting from Steve Bloyce and Matt Harper saw safety with the closure at 186 for 6 in the drawn match.  Wilson with 3 for 50 bowled well and Kashif Nasim too two wickets. In truth, the Wokingham boys had the better of the game but the 60-50 over split did nothing to suggest there is a great deal between these two sides.
