Last gasp glory for AP
Finchampstead hosted lowly Kidlington on Saturday keen to consolidate their third slot in the premier league table.
The hosts were asked to take first knock in good playing conditions. Sam Cheetham opening with Russell Lane departed with 29 on the board and then Lane cracked seven boundaries until he was bowled for 39 with the score at 75. The innings was well composed by a good stand of 85 between Matt jones 59 and Scott Patterson 42. After this the wickets tumbled as Finches pressed for runs but a useful 33 not out from skipper Sam Taylor saw the total to 224 for 9 in the 60 available overs.
Kidlington started their reply poorly with leading player Dave Taylor yorked early on by Darron Augustus. They were three down at 73 with Anthony Parson securing the wicket of John Kitson with his second ball. After a spell from the spinners Parson returned for his second spell taking two more wickets in his first over. He added a further two in his sixth over as at that point had 5 for 15. Kidlington captain Shabaz Ali showed the only real resistance with a well worked 62 but the slumped to 166 for 9 with two overs remaining. With one ball remaining Parson dismissed Shazid Rana to bring about a 56 run victory with the visitors all out 168.
The fine bowling by Anthony Parson saw a 6 for 24 return assisted by Steve Bloyce with 2 for 45. A step up to third place in the table was reward for the success.
