Finches Burn the 'field
Finchampstead, under the new reign of Sam Taylor, got of to a flyer away to Beaconsfield. Batting first in trying conditions 'New Boy' Russ Lane and Matt Jones put on a tidy stand of 122 after the early loss of Aussie Scott Patterson. SP nicked off for 6 after showing good signs of adapting to the sticky green top that must have felt a million miles from the Manly square in Sydney. Lane showed great concertration and punished the bad ball on the way to a fine 65. He went with the score on 126. Augustus (0) was unlucky to be run out after a mix up with the Welsh wonder Jones. but MJ went on to a creditable 56* by the end of the 40 overs. Taylor (20) chipped in well to accelerate the run rate whilst Woodruffe (0) swung across the line and was adjudged LBW trying to do the same thing. 171-5 didn't sound much but it was a fairly good target on this early season deck.
Another good debut from Simon 'Niggles' Hards saw him combine with 1st slip Harper to remove the 'Field opener Coleman with just 9 on the board. Niggles then cleaned up the other opener on his way to great figures of 6-4-4-2. Parson bowled well with conrol but it was Steve Bloyce, who wasn't at his best by his own admission, ripped the heart out of the middle order with 4-22 in 8 overs. Augustus picked up the wicket of Musk after a tidy start and Harper (2-3) and Parson cleaned up the last 3 for an emphatic 99 run victory against a side that will surely do very well in the division below.
