Marlow Frustrate

On a lovely summers day Finch hosted Marlow at the Memorial Ground in a bottom of the table clash still searching for their first win of the season. Marlow won the toss and inserted Finch which worked to the home side’s favour who would have chosen to bat anyway. After losing Jenkins early Bell and Lane batted patiently before Lane was dismissed by a good catch off a leading edge which brought Loveday to the crease. Bell and Loveday moved the scoreboard along well going at around 4 per over but were both dismissed in quick succession leaving Finch in a postion of not posting a competitive score on a flat wicket. However a wonderful knock from Lazenbury supported well by Predgen and Augustus enabled Finch to declare with one over to spare with 263 on the board.

Taking the old ball Finch managed to pile on the pressure to Marlow and the spin twins of Woodford and Uttley got the home side off to a good start. However this brought the middle order of Marlow to the crease who showed no signs of going for the competitive target and chose to shut up shop after less than 20 overs of batting. On a pitch that offered very little to the bowlers this effectively meant the writing was on the wall and neither team was going to go home with the honours. The finch attack toiled away well but wickets were hard to come by and a winning draw was the best Finch could do. On a warm day with the memorial ground bathed in sunshine it was a shame this game did not live up to wonderful setting. Finch host Stoke Green in the first match of the second half of the season.
