13-05-2017 - Home - TVL - Finch vs Cove

'Less said the better'

Finch 2’s hosted Cove last weekend for their first home league match of the season. Cove won the toss and chose to bat on a very flat looking Finch deck but even so, Matt Bell and Andy Lazenbury bowled well in the early stages to restrict Cove to a slow start. James Woodford and James Eaglesham followed up nicely with good ‘middle overs’ bowling to keep Cove at 3 per over after 30 overs which gave Finch encouragement. However the last 20 overs were a different story with the Cove middle order scoring very freely scoring 180 off the last 20 overs to post a very competitive 275/7 off their allotted overs.

In reply, Finch never really got going and lost wickets at regular intervals with only Gary Loveday (25) providing any sort of resistance to the strong Cove attack. The final total of 91 all out was a fair reflection of the lack of application shown by the Finch batting line up and big improvements must be made in all departments in order to fare well in this division. The disappointing start to the year doesn’t get any easier with a tough away trip to Gerrard’s Cross this coming weekend but captain Simon Bell will be looking for a sharp improvement in performance in order to register the first win of the season.
