10-06-2017 - Home - TVL - Finch vs Cookham Dean

Huge Strides Made....

Finch 2s started the series of ‘timed games’ with a tie at home against Cookham Dean. With Cookham coming down from the Home Counties leagues the year before it looked a tough game on paper but with good availability and a strong side, Finch went into the game full of confidence. Finch won the toss and on a very flat deck and in the sunshine, made no hesitation in choosing to bat. Lane got the home side off to a flyer supported well by Jenkins with the former making a run a ball 55 to give Finch the start they wanted. With pace off the ball finch lost both openers in quick succession which brought Bell (62) and Lincoln (75) to the crease who batted fluently together through the middle overs. Lincoln’s power hitting was a sight to be seen bludgeoning the Cookham Dean attack to all parts scoring a magnificent 75 off 48 balls. With wickets falling sporadically the home side continued to score freely and finished their allotted overs with a very competitive 292.

Skipper Bell chose to take the old ball and give Woodford and Lincoln the opportunity to nip a few out early. 2 wickets fell early and it looked like an uphill task for Cookham but for a wonderful innings from Fray (120) who kept Cookham right up with the rate going into the last 15 overs. However, following a crucial run out Finch pegged back the opposition and pushed the run rate up with some clever bowling. The lower middle order of Cookham came and went quickly which meant the target was of sight, but on such a flat deck the home side struggled to take the full 10 wickets and had to settle for a winning draw and a good total of 14 points. The seconds travel to Wokingham next week looking to build on this performance and begin the climb up the division one table.
